“Folk Traditions – Expression of the Russian Soul”

Firebird is currently organizing a unique exhibit in the U.S. on Russian folk art traditions. A gala opening will be held in Washington, D.C. in 2008-2009. Folk Art is a universal art form which touches upon the similarities that people have in common through art rather than on the differences. Folk Art reflects the soul of a nation’s people, and will be appropriately entitled “Folk Traditions – Expressions of the Russian Soul.”

The project enjoys support among the highest sectors of government, corporations and individuals in Russia and the U.S. In Russia, the project has the personal endorsement of President Vladimir Putin who has been a principal advocate for the preservation of folk art traditions. The exhibit is a component of the bicentennial celebrations of the establishment of Russian-American diplomatic relations (2007-2009).

“Literary Legacy of the Russian Emigration”

In 2007, Firebird sponsored an event in Washington, D.C. on the “Literary Legacy of the Russian Emigration” commemorating the 65th anniversary of the “New Review” journal, published in New York City and founded by author Mark Aldanov and Mikhail Tsetlin with the support of Ivan Bunin. For 65 years and to the present, the “New Review” journal publishes articles by many distinguished authors, and has included Nobel laureates Ivan Bunin, Alexander Solzhenitzyn, Boris Pasternak and Joseph Brodsky.

International Competition for Young Artists

In 2006, Firebird sponsored an international competition for aspiring young Russian artists. Finalists and winners were honored at a reception at the Russian Cultural Center in Washington, D.C. The art exhibit was a major success and was a catalyst for other international competitions to help struggling young Russian artists.

Documentary film on Russian Alaska

In 2008, Firebird will begin a collaborative partnership with the Russian Cultural Foundation in Moscow on a documentary film of Russian Alaska. Alaska has played a focal point in the establishment of Russian-American relations.

Four Hundred Years of the Romanov Dynasty

Firebird is also working on several other projects in connection with the 400th anniversary of the Romanoff Dynasty. We believe that these collaborative projects will be of tremendous interest to both Russians and Americans as well.
