An Evening of Remembrances hosted by the Librarian of Congress, Dr. James H. Billington. Opening of an extraordinary photographic exhibit of Rostropovich/Vishnevskaya and viewing of 1991 Emmy Award winning documentary “Soldiers of Music: Rostropovich Returns to Russia.” The title from the film comes from Rostropovich himself recalling some advice from Dmitri Shostakovich: “ We are all soldiers of music…stand firm, play to the end.” Open to the public. No tickets necessary.

A special celebration honoring Maestro Rostropovich 

This event is made possible with the generous support of The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in association with the International Firebird Arts Foundation 

The evening will feature: 

  • The presentation of the book The Great Son of Baku, authored by Azerbaijan’s First Lady and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva,

  • a photographic exhibition from the Rostropovich Museum in Baku, Azerbaijan, 

  • and a viewing of the 1991 Emmy-award-winning documentary “Soldiers of Music: Rostropovich Returns to Russia.”
